Closing date looks like it will be pushed back

We talked to the builder representative last night over the phone. It looks like our Sept. 30 deadline is in jeopardy. The reason given is that they are having difficulty with their brick distributor. If they cannot get our brick delivered by... well today (the end of August) then they will probably not be able to make the closing date targeted at Sept. 30.

The Brick distributors latest estimated delivery at this point is on or before Sept. 8th.... We have not heard what the estimated closing date would be yet.

We are also looking at the possibility of a bridge loan or even the possibility of short term lease on the house. I would REALLY prefer to not rent the house out.

So I don't know if the new house closing date slip is a blessing in disguise or not. TBD I guess.

Not a lot of new but here is an update anyway

Hola from the warmth of North Texas.

Things are stabilizing around here. The kids are getting into the school swing. Karen and I are getting use to 2 kids instead of 3 around the house. The apartment life seems a little less foreign....

Michelle went on a school trip to a local water park with the band. She said she had a good time. She came home with a bit of a sun burn. We sent sunscreen with her but....

Karen, Michelle and I played putt-putt Saturday night; just to get out and do something. Sunday We went to "The Ranch", to the clubhouse for brunch with Howard and Nancy. Pretty much the consensus was that we all ate too much. It was good food though.

Sunday afternoon/evening and on and off Monday we actually got some rain. Not a bunch but some. But the best part was that the temperature actually dipped down to around 75. That is cooler than it has been, even through the nights, since we moved here.

Michelle and I have been going to the pool a couple of times a week, just for some exercise and to get out the of appt. Karen joined us last night for a time though did not participate in the raucus spashing about. Not five minutes after she went back to the appt. It started raining. Michelle and I swam in the rain for a bit; long enough for our towels and clothes to get wet, then headed home.
Last week I got my car inspected and we got a bank account set up. This week we are working on car/homeowners insurance and mortgage quotes etc.

Other than that, Kyle came down with some 24 hour bug and was out of school Monday. We all have been sneezing and sniffing. Different alergens than we are use to I guess.

Tyler seems to be settled in at UNC. His classes are going well and he has started to run with his room mate and a friend for additional exercise.

Still no offers on our Durham House. If you know anyone who is looking to move to Durham or is looking for a good investment property let me know eh?

Finally Happy Birthday to Bob today. He is a big 22 today!

Tyler is all moved in.

This past weekend, Karen Tyler and I packed up and flew back to North Carolina but only Karen and I returned. Tyler moved into his new home away from home at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His room-mate Logan, a friend from high school, actually moved the lion share of his stuff into the room a couple of days before. We stored his stuff in their garage before we moved west.

Friday night Tyler was supposed to go to Marching band rehearsal. After some confusion he was able to connect up with the right folks so he could start practice Saturday Morning. We dropped him back at his dorm where he and Logan spent the evening setting up their new abode.

Saturday night Karen and I ran a Toothbrush and TV cable to him and to wish him the best before we headed back to Texas Sunday morning. He had a long day and was in less than a great mood. He felt clueless about what was going on with marching band since he missed the first two days of practice. Tyler very much likes organization and having a plan. And it bugs him if things are confused and he is powerless to do anything about it. Plus He had a band dinner to go to and would rather have just jelled in his dorm. That's my take on what had him on edge anyway.

Karen and I got his TV hooked up, attempted to quickly help with a furniture arranging issue and said our goodbyes. It was a little rough for both Karen and I. And perhaps a little for Tyler, who know. But we are both excited for him at the same time. I think he will really enjoy the college experience. Not just the social part but Tyler seems to get pure enjoyment out of learning.

So the best of luck to goes out to Tyler. Ask Bob, If you e-mail or keep your IM away message up to date we wont call ya so often and bug you!

Mid August...

Another week is in the books. The kids are adjusting to school thought we had to go out this weekend and but a bunch of freaking clothes due to the new Wylie independent School District Dress Code. Maybe it won't make any difference but I am going to have to do something about this inane policy, I just have not figured out what. We told the kids to cooperate and follow the rules but we would make an effort of some kind to voice our collective opinion to the school board etc.

Other than that, we are settled in to our apartment. The cable and Internet are functioning, I got the washer and dryer hooked up finally...

I am getting settled at work. Folks are for the most part friendly. I have not seen to many cowboy boots or hats roaming the halls. I am still looking for a couple of good radio stations. The sports radio here is very Cowboys centric, as you might imagine but I think hourly updates on their training camp is going overboard. I thought, leaving North Carolina, that I would be getting away from the NASCAR scene. It seems to be more prevalent here than where the sport originates. I did find the local NPR station and a good jazz station.

This week our goal is to find a local bank and get our mortgage locked in. We have to look into car insurance as well. We are delaying, if possible, registering our cars in TX until we are in our new house. That way we won't have to transfer drivers license and such multiple times. We are still legal since we still own the house in NC I suppose.

'Nough for now.

We have arrived

Just a quick one...

We made it to Texas. We arrived in Fairview probably around 3:00 on Tuesday. We spent Monday night in Little Rock and Sunday night in Nashville.

So this week we are staying at the In-Law's house in Fairview Texas. They are in Germany till next week some time. Monday our POD arrives at the apartment. So much of that day will be spent going up and down stairs. The only REAL concern is getting the Washing Machine up the stairs. At least we are only on the second floor.

We got the kids registered in School. Kyle at Wylie HS, and Michelle at Cooper JHS. Michelle has to take a placement test today in order to see if she can get into the more advanced classes. Then Monday the Band director wants her to audition so he knows what band to put her in.

Kyle decided to not do band this year, which is fine. He really like to cook and the HS has a good culinary department. So he will be taking cooking classes as well as Chemistry, math, English, etc.

I am moved into my new office at work... sorta. Things are mostly unpacked. I am still dealing with getting e-mail and phones etc set up. My e-mail address will not change. I just have to get it delivered to a different internal mail server.

The Cats did pretty well on the trip after the first day. Now that we have stayed put for a couple of days they are starting to eat and such a little more like normal.

Karen and I did a pre-drywall walk-through with our builder yesterday. We found a couple of minor issues but nothing show-stopping. We are still on schedule for the end of September.

Other than that we just need some freaking rain around here....

More updates later.
